where's the ball going? that way!

Saturday night was our annual Seniors vs. School flagball event. The weather wasn't quite as cold as I remember it being last year. Chadd explained the rules of screen-blocking to the kids beforehand since we've played Hawaiian rules for the last several years.

Taking pictures under the lights is always interesting. I'm never sure what color picture I'll get back, or how much will be in focus. It's not really worth trying to use flash because it doesn't reach far enough. This picture is typical of the "ghosts" that appear in the low light. You can see one of the senior girls in "illegal motion" before the ball was snapped on this play.

I was actually nominated to coach the girls' school team, for no good reason. Michael Patrick helped them out during the game more than I did. I was grateful for that, because I could go take pictures. The girls did great and tied 12-12, but lost to the seniors in overtime with -7 yards. All the seniors had to do was down the ball on the line of scrimmage to win.

My favorite play during the girls' game was when Chadd's penalty flag hit the ball in midair and knocked them both off course!

Carson had fun hanging out with everyone and Gabby got in on the seniors' face painting a little. I grabbed them for a quick picture.

The junior class (my class) sold concessions out of the equipment room during the games. We ended up making a good bit of money, considering we didn't announce it beforehand.

This is one of my favorite pics from the night. I actually squatted down on the ground near the ball and made the guys run around me during the kick.

The senior guys were more dominant over the school team, winning 21-7. Kyle did an excellent job as their QB. The school guys had two of their key players leave the game with leg injuries.

Every year, it's fun to hear the seniors' chants. The chant of choice this year was, "Where's the ball going? . . . That way!" (& point toward their end zone).
