summer kick-off

This weekend, we went to Collegedale to do a whole bunch of different stuff, as you will see in a minute. After our Friday night fun (see 2 posts ago), we came home late, but it was ok for getting up and ready by church at 11:45. CA's Baccalaureate was in the Collegedale church. It was so full we sat in the balcony.

Align CenterAfter a yummy spaghetti lunch, we all headed for some hibernation time. I woke up at 8:00p and went outside for a bit. Eric was there shooting hoops with Ryan. Ryan Clukey (& Springer Spaniel Jenna) showed up a little later, then Kelli & Jonathan, and finally Jessica Clukey (& Min Pin/Cocker Spaniel Mya).

Ryan's Lebron impression

After basketball, Mary Jane killed us at a game of Settlers (video to follow). Kelli & Jonathan had to leave, but Randy wanted a piece of the action and took game 2.

Ryan got in some tennis Sunday morning before we hit the road for Atlanta. Ryan's Jays were in town for their interleague series.

That's Vernon Wells (CF) after stealing 2nd. He waited another pitch or so and took off to steal 3rd. He scored on the next hit.

Wells also spent a good bit of time watching the jumbotron over our right shoulders. The infield is actually behind him at this point.

And this is why we look like lobsters now. We stayed in center field for about 6 innings in alternating clouds & sun, but it looks like we were in a tanning bed for 6 innings.

It's fun to see your fantasy baseball players in live action. Aaron Hill is my 2nd baseman. Jaclyn's pitcher Scott Richmond was Toronto's starter. He didn't walk anyone and had 5 strikeouts (also gave up 2 solo HRs).

Too bad for Ryan and the Jays that Atlanta pulled ahead to 10-2. The Jays couldn't get anything going. From MLB recap: "Toronto ended the afternoon 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position, leaving 11 runners on base in the process. Nine of those runners were stranded between the fifth and ninth innings." We did get to see 3 home runs by Brian McCann (2) and Kelly Johnson (first at-bat of the game).

On the way back, we stopped to see the Calhoun clan. Ella had fun pushing Evan around in his Tonka truck.

Evan wanted me to see his teeth!?!

We matched!

We had fun jumping for the pictures. I had to stop because I was worn out.

We even got out on the lake today. As expected, it was really busy and rough. Ryan was the only one who braved the rough waters.

We had beautiful clouds on the way back to Portland tonight, especially around Nickajack Lake.

farewell fare

On Thursday night, the staff got together to celebrate the end of the year and say goodbye to the Trumpers by eating out at Cheddar's in Hendersonville. Shelly jumped in between Richard and Kathy while we were waiting for our tables. She was in their faculty family as a student at Highland.

Carson quickly figured out what he wanted.

This face cracked me up.

Richard, who was Highland's treasurer for 15 years, admiring the framed picture of the staff and campus with this poem:

A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.

Carson & Olivia had a great time with their dessert, the Cookie Monster.

Gabby & Olivia outside Cheddar's after supper. I rode with the Patricks to the restaurant since Ryan couldn't come. He decided to stick around for his double-header softball games in Gallatin.

ski trip short

I spent a little time at work today watching clips from ski trip. I put a few together for your enjoyment. I hope to get the whole thing edited (we have like 5 hours of footage) and put on a DVD this summer.

good grill times

Our last-minute cookout spread in the Patricks' back yard last night. We all pitched in to make it a meal we weren't able to finish off. Burgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, veggies, chips & dip, & yummy drinks were on the menu, finished off with strawberry shortcake Janelle made.

Carson getting annoyed with encroachment on his personal bubble. He's starting to really push Olivia away when she's too close for comfort. It's good for her ;)

Ryan chatting with Randy before supper. The evening proved to have enough gluten-free options that Randy felt safe joining us. Chadd, Nikie, & Carson; Andy, Bekki, & Tessa; Michael, Becky & the girls; Jifer; and Steve & Janelle were the others present.

I tried to convince everyone that the most fun to be had with this type of vehicle is a rope tied to the front post. It's easier to fling it in circles that way . . . at least Grant and I thought so . . .

Jifer, the mastermind behind this whole meal, grills up some burgers & hot dogs. The Patricks were nice enough to let us borrow their grill and back yard. We all swore to get together for more meals this summer.

Click on this picture to enlarge Carson's scowl toward Moose. Carson is not fond of dogs after his grandmother's nipped him about a year ago. Every time he was on the ground with Moose loose (!), Carson would freak out. Now you understand his expression . . . and doesn't Moose look innocent?

Tessa is hanging out around campus a lot more these days now that Bekki has gone back to work.

Andy asked for the staff to pray for them on their first full day together Monday.

After we ate, it seemed like the logical thing to go jump on the trampoline for a while with the girls. We were trying to confuse the mosquitoes. Carson got quite a kick out of being bounced around.

I gave Carson an extra boost every now and then to make sure he got the full experience.

shooting the seniors

Here's a glimpse of graduation weekend and some people you may recognize. This is how far behind I am with life right now.
